Primary responsibility for the Lead Systems Security Engineer bridges the gap between the IT Governance and Information Security, Network and Systems engineering groups. A successful Lead Security and Systems Engineer will have a passion for corporate security and relentlessly champions the continuous implementation of security best practices to mitigate the banks risk. This role is responsible for performing all functions required to support day-to-day data security operations and incident response. Ensures that all bank systems and applications are patched to protect against potential security risks, hackers and cyber-attacks. Shares knowledge and mentors all members of the technology services team.


  • Actively researches security vulnerabilities on the bank's network, and computer systems utilizing both active and passive scanning methods.
  • Stays up to date with security news, vulnerabilities and remedies emerging in the field.
  • Investigates and responds to security incidents. Performs log and event analysis, traffic monitoring and packet captures.
  • Performs security audit remediation based on best practices, pen test results, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Respond to 3rd tier incident and requests, as well as escalations from lower tiers of support.
  • Monitor network resources including, but not limited to, virtual machines, SAN’s, servers, and software applications
  • Research and implement new security technologies and\or processes to reduce cost, increase reliability and improve security performance
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network
  • Inspect/maintain computer systems infrastructure and backup systems including by not limited to (Cisco UCS, NetApp SANs, as well as traditional server platforms)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent work experience, is required. Industry certification is a plus: GIAC Security Essentials, Certified Ethical Hacker, GIAC Certified Incident Handler, CISSP, CISM, or CISA.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory program requirements, such as FDIC, SOX 404, PCI, ISO 27001, NIST, FISMA, and SOC standards.
  • 5-10 years as a System Engineer or Administrator
  • Requested certifications – Cisco, Citrix, VMware, Veeam, Microsoft, NetApp
  • Knowledge of PowerShell or other scripting language
  • Hands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
  • Experience with network security and networking technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools
  • Strong knowledge in the following areas Cryptography, Windows Security, Cloud Security, and Network Security.
  • Must have the ability to effectively troubleshoot/diagnostic/resolve issues
  • Understand banking concepts as applied through the lens of technology
  • Knowledge of leading banking software for lending and deposits
  • Ability to learn quickly and retain knowledge
  • Ability to meet deadlines, Project management
  • Excellent interpersonal, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently and/or with a team
  • Ability to work additional hours
  • Careful attention to detail and time management
  • Possess ability to work in fast-paced environment
  • Act as technical mentor to lower administrators
  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act and OFAC related responsibilities in the performance of daily operations to ensure adherence to bank policies and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
